You Can't Take It With You

Hello everyone!
Things tend to pile up here and so after a long dry spell of the same old same old, we had a sudden burst of activity that will now carry us to the end of the school year. Our last day of school is May 30th, though that last week is mostly things like prom and field day. So the end of the year is coming up very quickly and spring is finally on us. After snow well into April, it is finally warmer and there is a ton more light than even a week or two ago.
As far as school activities, two Fridays ago the high school performed "You Can't Take It With You." They did a fantastic job and it was very funny! An especially funny part for the audience was the two Russian characters, the ballet instructor and the former Duchess. Since they live in Russia the students were able to nail the mannerisms and accents and it was wonderful!

Then this past Friday we had the band and K - 8th choir concert. The theme was creation and the Korean mothers decorated the third floor very well! The cross beam had grass and animals hanging from it!

The hanging was painted by our art teacher for the primary school hall and has the days of creation on it.

In March and April my high school classes were reading Romeo and Juliet or King Lear and my final project for them was to design a unique way of staging their play, including costumes, set, and a poster. The results were very cool and I took pieces from all of them to hang on the walls outside my room.

10th and 11th read King Lear

9th read Romeo and Juliet

The upper elementary chior. My 6th grade Social Studies Students are mostly in the back row.

The junior high band with animal hats! They did parts of the Carnival of the Animals and the animal hats are very popular in Korea. So Mr. G had them wear the hats for those pieces. :-)

Ogden Nash (a wonderful and unusual poet) wrote short poems to go with each of the Carnival of the Animal pieces. Our Chairman of the Board read them in different fun accents.

Part of the High School Band. They did Peter and the Wolf (more below) and Jupiter from The Planets along with other songs.

Junior High Choir. My 6th graders from last year are all in there. :-)

Three of the Seniors performing a Jazz Trio Piece

The High School Band did Peter and the Wolf which was written by Prokofiev (Russian!) for children. There is a story that goes with the songs to tie them together and Matt did the narration for the band. :-) He is becoming the go to Voice of IA! The above video is a part of that. (He's a little quiet.)

And for the last part of this post, the Junior High Choir singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
Not only are these some of my favorite kids in the whole school but this is just a really impressive performance. Enjoy!
