Pi Day and Fathers and Sons Game

As we've been heading toward spring break and the end of the year, various events have been going on at the school. The play is heading toward us slowly but surely and Matthew and I have guests coming for our spring break.
I recently went to the little theater that the play will be in and was able to get some pictures of it.

Shot of the theater from the stage!

In March, the school also celebrated Pi Day, as there are very few math holidays. Last year was the first year that the school did this and this year we did different activities that went with each subject. In my room, we did Pi-kus, which are hikus that use the syllables corresponding to the numbers of Pi. Below we have pictures of their lovely poems and some of them working on them.

This past weekend the school had it's yearly "fathers and sons" game, where any able adult male plays against the high school basketball team. Matt played this year and the adult team actually did very well, though they still lost to the high school team.

Matt doing a rather impressive jump!

And last but not least, Matt's oldest class has an ongoing thing about drawing whales on tests and such. So one of our students drew a picture of both of us riding whales. :-) I'm waving my arms as I am wont to do and you can see Matthew's curls.

Our next post will cover the visit we have from two friends from college! :-)

School Events!

Hello!
Things have been pretty normal here as of late but there have been some special events at school. :-) Our student council has been great this year about organizing different things for the high school and for the whole school. (You may remember the very well done lock in from earlier in the year.)

First was Valentine's Day at IA. Valentine's Day has always been a big deal at our school and a long standing tradition has involved students singing. The way it works is students volunteer to sing and then others pay to have a student of their choosing sing a song of their choosing to a person of their choosing.

Singing during lunch

Here one of our favorite students sings Gangnam Style. (This song was particularly popular at our school because we have such a large Korean population.)

A particular surprise this year was having one of my tenth graders sing a song from High School Musical to me. :-)

Another event, that I had been pushing for myself, was Pajama Day! This one was very simple: just wear your pajamas!
I wore my Hello Kitty as Red Riding Hood pajamas and Matt wore a shirt and tie like always. :-)
This event got a particularly large involvement so it was a lot of fun!

Making funny faces!

We also had drama practice on Pajama Day so here are some more pictures, with the lines that are happening in them.

Perhaps she's the kind of person who just can't help missing the train? (discussing the missing host and hostess)

"Well, you see for the last few years I've lived at the Benton house and my chair is right about here. Can't seem to get used to sitting anywhere else." "Yes, it becomes a bit of a habit." (General MacKenzie politely pushes Sir Wargrave out of the chair he wants.)

"Daivs! Davis is the name! You must be Dr. Armstrong!" (One of the most oft repeated lines in the play!)

And laughing at one of our more comical student's antics. :-)

One thing to be praying for in the future is spring break. A large group of teachers will be going to Germany for a conference and we will be having guests! Pray that all travel goes smoothly and that everyone is able to enjoy their time!
